Who We Are

Since 1919, our League members have served our city by effectively training volunteers, providing leadership, raising funds and developing programs and services that make our community a better place to live, work and raise a family.  Since the League's inception, our members have donated over $1.9 million dollars and more than 1.4 million volunteer hours to our community. League members research areas of need in the Omaha area and educate the membership and the community about those issues.

Women building better communities. That's the Junior League.
The Junior League has been the driving force behind the kinds of initiatives and institutions that make our community a healthier, more vital places to live.

Junior League members, reflecting a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and professional pursuits work together to identify unmet needs, forge effective coalitions, and work for change. Time and time again, the Junior League is among the first organizations to step up to the plate and tackle a community's biggest challenges.

Busy Raising a City.

The Junior League of Omaha (JLO) has been instrumental in developing core community-based organizations and agencies including:

  • Douglas County Immunization Task Force
  • Emmy Gifford Children's Theater (now The Rose Theater)
  • Every Woman Matters
  • Fontenelle Forest Guild
  • Friends of the Omaha Public Library
  • General Crook House
  • Girls Incorporated of Omaha
  • Joslyn Museum Guild
  • Nebraska Food Bank Network
  • Nebraska Special Olympics
  • Omaha Community Foundation
  • Omaha Symphony Guild
  • Race for the Cure (now the Nebraska Race for the Cure)
  • Parent Assistance Hotline
  • Women's Shelter Hope

Junior League members know their community well and know how to get things done.  They pragmatically assess problems and solutions, motivate volunteers, and create new partnerships in the public and private sectors.  Most importantly they lay the foundation for real, lasting change.
