Board of Directors:
The Board of
Directors evaluates overall JLO policy; maintains general control of
JLO affairs, funds and properties; is the final authority for admission to
and removal from membership; establishes and administrates long-range planning;
interprets the By-Laws; and manages personnel issues of the
organization. Board meetings are held
the 1st Monday of every month and are open to all members unless the
President specifically closes the meeting.
Councils:
Coordinate efforts of all reporting committees to ensure
strategic plan initiatives are being met.
Execute on-going JLO programs; explore issues, gather information, and
make recommendations to the Board of Directors; provide organizational
continuity through records and membership training; set standards of
performance, conduct research, evaluate and forecast all elements of League
activity for related area. Each chairman of the various JLO committees is
assigned to a council and attends monthly council meetings. The councils are organized according to
the three major areas of League activity: Community, Finance, and Membership. Each council also has a director, who is
elected and sits as a voting member of the Board. Council meetings are held
monthly, generally during the fourth week.
Committees:
Committees carry out the goals and objectives as assigned
or developed internally; make procedural decisions for their focus area; and
review By-Laws, Standing Rules and the Strategic Plan and make
recommendations to their Council.
Membership:
Membership retains final authority for the total Junior
League program. They make decisions affecting
the entire membership. Each active
member of the Junior League of Omaha is a member of the Board of Directors, a
Council, or a committee (Community Placement excepted). Information may travel either from
committee member to chairman to Council Director to Board or from Board to
Council Director to chairman to committee member.
